Sessional Teacher And Et Work

Dandenong Victoria

I have been fortunate to have worked at many levels in my emergency teaching role and also as a sessional teacher. I have been involved with EAL, VCAL, ELICOS and SEE students, from all around the world. This area of Victoria ( especially Dandenong city) is an extremely diverse area with migrants and refugees from all over the world. It has been an absolute privilege to get to teach so many interesting people.

Esl Teacher

Chisholm Institute Dandenong

What did I do? What do I do....teaching English to migrants, international students and sometimes myself. Learning every day...I have volunteered at ASRC ( Asylum Seeker Resource Centre) teaching people on Bridging Visas and also at the SMRC ( Southern Migrant Resource Centre),I have taught ELICOS to upper-level English students at Flinders University, Chisholm TAFE and Sunraysia TAFE in Mildura.I am an approachable, cheerful teacher who works hard to meet deadlines and push my students while always remembering that a classroom of adults is a room full of individuals with differing levels of complexity in their lives that can affect their learning.I have experienced first hand being a newcomer to another country as I grew up with both parents having English as a second ( or third) language. I experienced the racism and the difficulty of not fitting in, in two countries. I've also traveled in countries where I have not understood the language that surrounds me every day. Its isolating and confusing. I feel this has helped me a lot in my work, to truly understand how a new country looks through the eyes of others.I would like to expand into areas of assisting people gain employment or any way I can assist migrants, refugees or anyone build a life. I would enjoy a role beyond ESL that really puts language learning into context and immediate use.
