Having always had a passion for helping others I sought from a young age a career that would help me pursue this. After discovering Occupational Therapy I quickly realised this was the path I wished to take, with a particular focus on mental health. I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Liverpool and gained my first post in a mental health hospital and have been working in this area since.In my current role I work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing care and treatment to service users with a diagnosis of emotionally unstable personality disorder, with a focus on rehabilitation and community integration. I manage my own caseload and implement occupational therapy interventions alongside a dialectical behavioural therapy model having completed training in this area by British isles DBT.I am responsible for carrying out assessments that look at the individuals abilities in a range of activities of daily living. Following assessment I am able to implement person centred interventions and recommendations to enable service users to achieve their goals or maintain as much independence as possible, whilst considering levels of risk. Areas that are assessed include a variety of functional skills, sensory needs and how emotional dysregulation can impact on abilities to engage in occupations.Whilst carrying out my role I maintain a high standard of organisational, communication and time management skills. I also uphold accurate and thorough patient records, documenting; assessment, interventions, recommendations and risk.
