From September 2018- September 2020. My Training Contract was split into four six-month seats in the General Dental Council’s In-House Legal Presentations Service, In-House Appeals and Criminal Enforcement Service and In-House Legal Advisory Service. In-House Legal Presentation Service - I managed, investigated and prepared my own cases for consideration by Practice Committees. This included drafting case plans, sanction bids, court forms, witness statements, instructions for Counsel and Experts and applications for joinder. I also drafted applications requesting a review of the decision to refer matters to a Practice Committee and applications for voluntary removal from the register. I drafted correspondence to internal and external stakeholders and prepared hearing bundles. I also undertook advocacy and presented cases before Practice Committees. In-House Legal Advisory Service - I assisted on various litigation matters and prepared appeal hearings and cases for judicial review. I also undertook legal research and provided written advice for internal departments on various legal queries including registration applications to the Council and contract review. I also drafted the legal monthly bulletin which provided an update on the work undertaken by each legal team and case law updates. In-House Criminal Enforcement Service - I carried out online surveillance and investigated individuals suspected of performing illegal tooth whitening. I also drafted charging advice and prepared illegal tooth whitening cases for Magistrates’ Court and CPD appeal cases.
