When I was in second grade, my best friend and I would spend time together at her house every Tuesday after school collaborating on short stories—I would write them and she would add illustrations. It was then that I discovered my love for creative writing. When I wasn't spinning elaborate tales with my best friend, I would have a notebook open under my school desk penning short stories in class until the teacher would inevitably catch me.As I continued my educational career through elementary, middle, and high school, I kept on writing. Even after my partner in crime moved away, it brought me joy to continue creating high-stakes plots, intriguing characters, and fantastical new worlds. When I gifted a friend a short story of my own writing for her birthday in seventh grade, I realized how fulfilling it felt when other people read and enjoyed the work I created. I knew then that this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.This is why I chose to study English and Creative Writing at The University of Iowa. I am eager to learn more about the writing world, improve upon my craft, and meet and read the work of other talented writers. I have learned so much since attending college and look forward to utilizing these skills and my passion in the workforce—and one day writing and publishing a novel to completion!
