Chair, Associates Board

Chicago, Il

Illinois Science Council is an independent, volunteer-driven 501c3 organization that engages, educates, and entertains the adult public about STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) in our everyday lives. As Chairman of the Associates Board, I recruited and led our volunteer team of scientists and science enthusiasts. During my tenure, I made strategic adjustments in programming and execution that resulted in a record-breaking 66% increase in profits at our annual fundraiser.

Jun 2014 - Dec 2014

General Manager And Student Advisor, Wluw-Fm Radio

Chicago, Il

I led the independent radio station WLUW-FM and its talented staff into a new chapter, implementing a robust student learning experience and revitalizing its celebrated community media roots. Today, the organization is 150+ volunteers strong, richly ingrained into the local community, and widely known as the most listened to student and community radio station in Chicago. My proudest accomplishments: seeing students land their first media jobs thanks to the skills they developed at our organization, fostering a three-year partnership with Toyota to promote our station at Lollapalooza Music Festival, overseeing the construction and move into a world-class studio, establishing a popular internship partnership with Chicago Public Media, and the time I snuck a chimpanzee into the studio. Keywords: student media, public radio, student radio, community radio, higher education, mentorship, volunteer management, program manager, non-profit manager, executive director

Jan 2009 - Dec 2014

Producer

Business Matters Radio

I helped entrepreneur Thomas White turn his ambitious vision of creating a radio program that highlights innovative and sustainable businesses into a reality--from establishing the show's production clock to making initial contact with policymakers, business executives, thought leaders and the like. It was an incredible experience. The show was eventually picked up by the Pacifica Network and broadcasted in several states.

May 2008 - Sep 2008

Station Manager, Kjhk-Fm

Lawrence, Kansas Area

KJHK has been recognized as one of the best college radio stations in the country by The Washington Post and Princeton Review. As Station Manager, I provided leadership and mentorship to a staff of 150 student volunteers and oversaw daily station operations. I also collaborated with student volunteers to develop, create, and execute live marketing and recruitment events.

May 2007 - May 2008

Producer/On-Air Host For Kcur-Fm

Kansas City, Missouri Area

KCUR-FM is Kansas City’s NPR-affiliate, a top-ranked station in the market for listeners 35-54, broadcasting at 100,000 watts with 174,000+ listeners each week. But to me, it was my first professional radio family.I started as a board operator, hosting for shows like Weekend Edition, Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!, and A Prairie Home Companion and filling in for All Things Considered and Morning Edition. I eventually became the producer for one of the station's flagship radio programs, Cypress Avenue. And as an anchor, pitcher, and producer during five membership drives, I helped KCUR reach record fundraising numbers.Speaking of which, if you ever have the opportunity to volunteer at your local public radio station's membership drive, do it. You won't believe how fun it is and how much delicious locally donated food you will eat.

Jun 2006 - May 2008

Staff Volunteer

Kjhk-Fm

Lawrence, Kansas Area

You name it, I did it. I hosted and produced my own weekly radio program, reviewed music, promoted the station at live events on and off campus, assisted with programming, produced audio pieces, interviewed bands, read the 6am news, and did anything else I could get my hands on. I'm forever grateful for the time I spent at KJHK, which is frequently listed as one of the top college radio stations in the country. If you dream of being in media, there's no better place to start than your college radio station.
