Leads a six man reconnaissance team during combat operations; supervise tactical deployment of assigned element in offensive, defensive and retrograde operations; receive and issues orders; coordinate action of the element with adjacent support elements and supporting fire power; analyze terrain; conduct tactical operation for a squad, operations of a patrol base; maintain operational security; prepare, operate and maintain secure communications equipment; ensure collection and proper reporting of intelligence data to unit.

A weapons squad leader leads his teams by personal example. I had complete authority over my subordinates and overall responsibility for those subordinates' actions. The centralized authority enabled me to act decisively while maintaining troop discipline and unity and. Under the fluid conditions of modern warfare, even in the course of carefully-planned actions, I had to accomplish assigned missions using initiative without needing constant guidance from above.As a weapons squad leader I was the senior squad leader, second only to the platoon sergeant. I performed all of the duties of the rifle squad leader. In addition, I also:- Controlled fires and establishes fire control measures.- Recommended machine gun employment to the platoon leader.- Coordinated directly with the platoon leader for machine gun base-of-fire effects and plans accordingly.- Monitored ammunition expenditure.- Coordinated directly with the platoon leader in placement of the Javelin close Combat Missile System (CCMS) to best cover armored avenues of approach in the defense and overwatch positions in the attack.- Employed command and control systems available to the squad and platoon.- Performed the role of the platoon sergeant as required.- Understood the mission two levels up (platoon and company).

-Supervised the logistics, administration, and maintenance activities of the platoon. -Organized and controlled the platoon alternate Command Post. -Trained the crews and employs the platoon's machine guns IAW the platoon leader's orders. -Received the squad leaders' requests for rations, water, and ammunition. Works directly with the company executive officer and first sergeant to request resupply. -Monitored the morale, discipline, and health of platoon members. -Commanded task-organized elements in the platoon during tactical operations. This can include, but is not limited to, establishing quarters, security forces in withdrawals, support elements in raids or attacks, and security patrols. -Coordinated and supervised company directed platoon resupply operations.

I performed my duties as a Team Leader in a Stryker platoon executing combat operations. I was responsible for conducting convoy security patrols, route reconnaissance and surveillance, and quick reaction force; along with being responsible for the health, welfare and professional development of 3 Soldiers; responsible for the maintenance and accountability of all team equipment valued in excess of $175,000.00 dollars; assists platoon sergeant and squad leader in planning and preparation of combat missions.

As a rifleman I was an integral part of a fire team. I had to become an expert in handling and employing my weapon. Additionally, I had to:- Be an expert on my weapon system—my rifle, its optics, and its laser aiming device. I had to be effective with my weapon system day or night. I also must be capable of engaging all targets with well-aimed shots.- Be able to employ all weapons of the squad, as well as common munitions.- Be able to manage his food, water, and ammunition during operations.- Be prepared to assume the duties of the automatic rifleman and team leader.
