Pr Supervisor
After working well within USSA PR team for the last two years, I was given a promotion to PR supervisor for the academic year 15/16. My duty as supervisor is to look after a team of seven, training them up at the start of the year and ensuring they know what's expected of them on shift. Throughout the year I am responsible for organising a rota suitable for the team and also for submitting their hours to HR for payment. I am responsible for managing the flow of material that needs to be distributed and when/where this has to be done to ensure that people know what's going on within the Union. As a supervisor, I am also expected to keep the moral of the team at a high and to try to sort out any problems that may arise due to mispayment, sickness etc, if something can't be sorted by me personally I ensure its passed to the right place and corrected as soon as possible. Offering support at guidance to the team is a priority as most of the team are also students and have a lot going on outside of work.I feel this role has enriched my leadership skills and has given me the opportunity to have more responsibility within an organisation. It has boosted my confidence in my abilities as I feel I have excelled within this role, despite also having another part time job and studying full time in my 3rd year of university. Time management has been an absolutely essential part of ensuring I reach targets and it ensures I don't neglect one thing over another.
Pr Team Member
I worked in the USSA, alongside my New look employment, for two years. My day to day duties as a team member involved ensuring that students have up to date and relevant information about upcoming events that are happening within the students' union, as well as taking responsibility for updating notice boards within the university grounds with new material. This had to be done thoroughly and within a very short amount of time, allowing me to develop a great work pace and really mould accurate time management skills. Talking to students every shift and forming familiar connections with people on campus and in halls of residence, has really highlighted and enriched my communication skills. After working well for two years as a PR team member, I was promoted to the PR supervisor within USSA effective September 2015.
Sales Assistant
I have worked in New Look for over four years and really enjoy my job; I work within a large flagship store so it is necessary to have good communication skills and to be productive and efficient within a busy environment. I am very well trained in all roles within the store, however my main job title is within sales and service therefore I work mainly at the till point or within the fitting rooms. This has allowed me to develop outstanding customer service skills and shown me how to work alongside the public in a swift and effective manner. I strive to do my absolute best within the company and I feel this attitude pays off as I frequently receive customer compliments and consistently meet my targets. Due to my many years within this company, I am a highly valued member within the team and am happy to be able to use my experience in order to help other colleagues if they come across difficulty, for example, with a specific transaction at the tills they are unsure of how to process or even possibly dealing with an unhappy customer who feels they have not received the service or quality of product they expected. Overall, I have developed many key skills and my confidence has grown greatly within my time at this company and I feel that these skills can be transferred into any future role.
Customer Service Advisor
I worked at Response Handling representing the Student Loans Company, over a few months in 2013. It was a short term contract to help them with the massive ramp up of calls they would be receiving from applicants prior to the renewing academic year. The incoming calls would usually be from concerned Students and/or their Parents, who were new to the process of applying for student support. My job was to give reassuring, helpful advice on what funding was available to students, how to apply and when/if they would receive payments. I was given an intense two week training course on the different types of funding and the application process, as well as training in data protection, of which I absorbed quickly and handled extremely really well on the calls. This was always reflected in my feedback from both customers and my team manager. Great communication skills were key in this role as I had to provide trusted information and reassure Students by only talking to them over the phone and this experience hugely developed my people and communication skills.
