About Daniel Mederos
I am an experienced Network Engineer with a demonstrated history of working in the telecommunications industry. I am a Cisco Certified Network Professional - Enterprise (CCNP ENT). I am currently working to obtain the Cisco Certified Network Professional - Service Provider (CCNP SP) before moving onto Juniper certifications. I am constantly trying to improve myself by studying and obtaining more certifications. Networking is my passion!How I got into Networking - After graduating college, I was looking for a programming job, but I landed a networking job at EarthLink. At the time, my networking knowledge consisted of knowing what an IP looked like, but that all changed very quickly. I soon discovered a love for networking and ditched the idea of becoming a programmer. Within a year, I found myself really proficient at my job. I quickly became one of the best techs on the activation team with the highest installs on the team in my second year. After obtaining my CCNA, I was able to land a Network Engineer role at NRTC, where I currently work. After proving my knowledge/expertise and obtaining my CCNP, I was promoted to Network Engineer II, which is my current position.

Network Engineer Ii
My workload as a member of the network team consists of design, implementation, troubleshooting, and redesigning networks. Our division configures all core and edge routers and switches for our affiliates. We have a ticket queue, where our affiliates can open tickets for us to troubleshoot an issue, add new equipment to their network, add a new upstream uplink, ect. We also onboard new electric cooperatives that are becoming ISPs. These projects are green fields, meaning we start from scratch when designing their network. We offer Cisco or Juniper core gear solutions to our affiliates. I have designed single headend networks to multi-headend networks with redundancy built between the headends. During these projects, we also work with Calix or ADTRAN professional services. They configure the customer's access gears based on our VLAN design. These are multimillion dollar projects, so there is a lot of pressure to get these done correctly and in a timely manner.Common protocols used:BGPOSPFIS-ISVRRP

Service Activation Tech Ii
My job responsibilities are to work with field techs and customer’s IT/vendors to turn up Internet and MPLS services for customers. The onsite field tech physically installs a preconfigured Adtran or Cisco equipment, this includes routers and switches, and then I verify the configuration is correct and make configuration changes when needed. All of the troubleshooting is at the CPE and PE level and includes troubleshooting at layers 1, 2, and 3. This also includes circuit issues on T1, T3, DSL, Fiber/Ethernet, cable, etc. It is my responsibility to make sure our configuration meets the customer’s needs.
