As a child of Nigerian immigrant parents, I can definitely say I ended up on the stereotypical career path. For anybody who doesn't know, in an African household the only possible routes are becoming a doctor, lawyer, or engineer. So it was no surprise to my parents when I entered college and declared my major as computer science. However, my path wasn't as linear as you might think. So how did I get here? Growing up I was an avid reader, so I always thought I would pursue a career in the humanities. However, when I heard from my older sibling the amount of papers that meant I would write in college, I knew I had to change my plans. Once I reflected for a bit, the answer became a no-brainer. For as long as I could remember I had been glued to technology. Whether it was using my PC or playing on a gaming console, technology was always right by my side. Eventually, my gaming habits subsided, and in its place grew a genuine interest in the technology and how it worked. What began as something as simple as helping my parents fix a virus on their computer, to being heralded as a genius for inputting an HDMI cord, turned into programming games and working on tiny coding projects. Once I entered college I quickly began picking up coding language after language, After 2 years at West Texas A&M, I became proficient in Java, Python, C++, REXX, and Assembly Language. Furthermore, I made sure to broaden my horizons by becoming familiar with Enterprise Systems. During my summers I made sure to remain consistent by taking courses in which I developed several programs. Notably, I recreated popular games such as Snake, Pong, Etch-A-Sketch, and Frogger. I also achieved working versions of a Flight Deal Tracker utilizing APIs as well as an Amazon Price Tracker. Now in my 3rd year, I am currently a student at the University of North Texas and am learning C and Shell Scripting, as well as taking courses focused on Cybersecurity and AI, and am expected to graduate in December 2025. All these things have made me into the person I am today, and I wouldn't trade away a single moment. And the person I am today is the person that’s right for your company!
