Throughout the entire internship, I worked closely with the rest of the engineering team, handling SCRUM Epics from the same board as the rest of the team, deploying to production alongside the full-time employees. This close collaboration required me to handle tasks like creating easy-to-review PRs, submitting reviews for team-mates' code, and structuring PRs to deploy safely.I worked on both frontend and backend tasks. On the frontend, I created new React components and refactored old ones, for example: I added a new form modal, fixed an issue in the component hierarchy that was causing an erroneous remount, and traced a redundant variable through the entire application to remove it.On the backend, I added new endpoints to support several features I implemented, added functionality to the sync layer to pull new information from the Athena, Cerner, and Epic medical records APIs, and wrote database migrations to handle the changes necessary for these tasks.

As Kahuna's first US-based technical employee, my role shifted as Kahuna's dev team was built up. Initially I worked mostly in an advisory capacity, taking product concepts from management, analyzing their technical feasibility, and making initial proposals for their architectures to be used by the product team and international contractors.As the company began hiring full-time developers, I shifted to a software development role reporting directly to the Director of Software Engineering. This mostly involved our collaboration on functional proof-of-concepts for new features in the core Kahuna application. I built Gitlab CICD pipelines, managed and wrote software for internal Kubernetes clusters, wrote documentation, and spearheaded new features like Moku, Kahuna's MS Teams chatbot. Simultaneously I advised newer interns on the technical aspects of their roles.
