Founding (And Current) Editor / Producer, Protradecraft.Com

Current

Hartford, Connecticut Area

Editor of ProTradeCraft.com—a technical journal for remodelers and trade contractors built for a phone.ProTradeCraft is a digital-only publication with a non-invasive advertising approach: native content that provides valuable information that people actually read/watch/engage with. No. Marketing. Junk. Allowed.I produce content in many media, depending on the information: - Animations of construction sequences- Video series of construction projects- Podcasts: 7 Minutes of BS—#BuildingScience with a Beat, which recently won a Neal Award for Editorial Excellence for Best Technical Content. and Career Toolbox, a new series just launching.- Film production: short, entertaining films for builders that are more interesting than useful. We conceived of, planned, designed, built, and launched Pro Trade Craft within five months of the initial phone call. ProTradeCraft launched on time, on budget, and working like a charm. Overall, it was a pretty agile process..

Board Member

This organization supports and promotes the arts as a way to raise money and awareness for important causes. I am proud to lend my expertise in digital media production and distribution to a good bunch of people.Produced a documentary short film that grew out of a community art project we launched during covid. The community arts project remade a Civil War song into a 21st-century anthem. The project brought in over $10k in grants to produce and present the public art (the film, an anthemic music video, and the audio version of the song), and it employed 21 artists, technicians, and arts organizations, putting most of that grant money into the pockets of local artists. One subsidiary of Culture for a Cause is a community-access Television show, City Views, about news, entertainment, and culture. I am the volunteer producer. I record interviews with elected officials, execute video post-production, add graphics, and edit together the spots for broadcasting to YouTube and other social media and live television. I recently launched a podcast of the shows.

I helped this local community access TV show rethink how they broadcast during the pandemic. Covering news, arts, culture, and entertainment, we produce 'Zoom-style' segments, mash them together in Final Cut, and email them to the TV studio, which is not open for live broadcasts, yet.

2008 - Mar 2011

Managing Editor, New Products

Determine feasibility of a subscription-based web site for residential green builders, remodelers, architects, and consumers. Outline the concept.Work as part of a team to launch the site on time and on budget. Manage a team of up to 15 staff editors, free lance editors, free lance illustrators, and video producers to assemble content and convert into roughly 2,000+ web pages. Some comments from my boss on this project: "Dan jumped into the project and jump-started what had been a lethargic effort at designing (architecturally) and building the site's content. He initiated most of the important moves and operations without supervision.""While design was not his purview, he added greatly to the discussion of and enhancement of the design of the site by others.""Dan's approach is straightforward, as is his communication style, which worked well in the fast-paced, highly charged, and challenging environment of product launch.""Dan's work in 2008 is responsible for the quality and depth of the new site. Without Dan, it would not have happened or have been as well-regarded as it is."
