I use spreadsheets both inside and outside of work.I spent nearly 18 years at my previous place of employment - first starting in Inbound Sales; dealing with customers over the phone - before being assigned to support the IT department in their commercial requirements. I spent 5 years understanding the Financial aspect of procurement (balance sheets, accruals/prepayments etc.); before returning to IT procurement in a more responsible role. Throughout these roles I have produced and developed spreadsheets that still underpin those aspects of the business today.My final position at Farnell also involved contract negotiation - which required me to acquire a basic knowledge of how business contracts are written and laid out; in order to then test and challenge them, and finally negotiate changes with third-party providers; often to financially benefit the business.I also became incredibly well acquainted with a Purchase-to-Pay system called Esker - I became one of the key implementors, administrators, and educators of the system, which was adopted worldwide for Indirect Procurement.This included understanding the practical aspects of how the system works - and how the hundreds of business users will need to interact with the system - translating that into simple powerpoint-based training videos, which I also delivered in person and over Teams.Alongside this I was also involved in the commercial negotiations around the system being adopted in the first place, and maintaining a positive relationship with the vendor.My main job satisfaction comes from deciphering business requirements, and using my experience with spreadsheets, contracts, training and multi-department engagements, to help deliver on those requirements.

Beginning in April 2019, I formalised how I view the world - through the lens of a personal organisation, entitled the Ministry of GINGER.In practical terms this means I have a way of annually budgeting and tracking my finances; I have a calendar that aligns much more with how I approach the year; and I have various outlets for creative thoughts and ideas that I want to document and demonstrate to anyone who might be interested in my perspective on life.In reality, this is still a developing experience that I expect will outlast my years of employment; but I like to be open about the underlying framework for whatever I do. As part of the Ministry, the Department of Business and Employment is hard at work navigating my current career break, and hopefully leading me towards a more rewarding form of future income.
