I achieved my first professional job in the IT industry in 1977 while serving in the US Army where my military occupational specialty was as a Computer Operations / Programming Specialist. I later completed Officer's Candidate School, taking my commission as a US Army Reserve Officer. As a commissioned officer, I held leadership positions; Data Center Officer, Security Officer, NBC Warfare Officer, and Training Officer. Before working for my current employer, I established and ran my own business that encompassed IT Consulting/Solutions Integration, Consumer Retail locations as well as Health and Fitness for 10 years. I have been with Microsoft since May 2000, all in the federal / public sector business. I now function as a Security Technical Solutions Professional specifically focused on the Microsoft Security Product Line and strategies for Microsoft US Federal. I am a regular speaker regarding Microsoft Security technologies, strategies, and best practices in customer engagements, architectural design sessions, and Executive Briefing Councils. Other speaking engagements have included TechEd, Gartner IT Security Summit, AFITC, VA IT Summit and others. While at Microsoft I have also functioned as one of the master trainers for the Microsoft Defense in Depth program (Windows 2000/2003) that was delivered to partners, customer and Microsoft staff in the US, London, Australia, and Japan; as well as delivered many custom training sessions on desktop/enterprise application development, secure application development, threat modeling, network architecture/operations, and information assurance/Security. In 2008 I was selected and qualified to become one of the trainers for the Microsoft Consulting End-to-End program for new hires and current staff. I worked at Blackberry as a Principal Solutions Architect.
