For this purpose, a benchmarking was carried out, comparing the data and the results of the analysis of 3 micro and small companies in Sorocaba (São Paulo) belonging to different branches, Metal Mechanics, Civil Construction and Business Consulting. The study made it possible to analyze the real positioning of organizations in relation to KM, since all the companies analyzed were in the “Initial” state, a state in which KM activities and processes are not widely disseminated. On the other hand, the application of training indicated a significant improvement in the applicability of KM and at the same time it showed that, according to the opinion of the interviewees, the main barrier to the implementation of KM is the lack of sponsorship from top management. Finally, the KMAUDITBR tool proved to be very promising to measure the degree of architecture or development of KM
