My journey with computers started in the age of the Commodore: when you used tape drives and there were no hard drives around. I was amazed at how you could use Logo to give a turtle mathematical instructions and saw beauty unfold. The magic of science! My passion for software has since evolved and now lies in understanding what the (business/personal) problem is and how to solve it using software in a way that improves life for users. Software should add value and not become a chore to use, else people won't use it and it becomes useless. I also believe in the power of data, especially in understanding it and using it to enabling decision making.Although I have a degree in Computer Science and can talk about the science behind it, I prefer to look at it as not just science, but also the art and beauty behind it. My aim is to apply the correct technology to a problem in order to create useful and purposeful software for business (and personal) use. Over the years I've seen that "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" as per Aristotle. I enjoy it immensely to work with people in a team where we soundboard and challenge each other with new ideas/thoughts to really get to the best solution (tech and user wise) we can. This has grown into my role as Development Manager where I get to apply that to all the people, teams and clients I work with. Although this role has taken me away from being a "hardcore techy dev", I can still pull my weight as architect and developer on a team. I stay abreast of new technology and trust and learn from my staff just as much as I hope they learn from me.
