I was responsible for interviewing, hiring, training and supervising the staff of the Future Astronaut Training Program. I wrote the agendas for Levels 1 through 3 of the program, including the scheduling of all theaters, classrooms, and transportation needs for the camps. I rewrote all training classes for the staff, and wrote new class material for the camps, including the implementation of new training software for the classes that captured student responses. I continued as the liaison to the Hutchinson Police Department, where I assisted with training for the Special Response Unit. I continued cooperation with the local police and fire departments to develop an updated map of the facility for use in emergency response planning. I also assisted in the training of the entire facility’s staff with the active shooter policy for the museum developed in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies in my previous role as Community Outreach Manager.

I attended the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Yoder, Kansas from December 2006 to March 2007. I graduated 5th in my class of 58 students. I am certified in Flying Armed, Emergency Vehicle Operations, CPR, First Aid and National Incident Management System Level 1. I qualified in the use of handguns, shotguns as well as non-lethal weapons such as collapsible batons, OC spray, Taser© and bean bag rounds.

As a part of the Marketing team, I assisted in the creation of a unified camps brochure. I attended local and state conferences as a speaker for the Cosmosphere, and represented the Cosmosphere at trade shows to promote the Cosmosphere and its camp programs. I helped to plan and put on public events for the Cosmosphere. I trained tour guides for the Hall of Space museum, as well as helped with installation of new exhibits. I again was interviewed on numerous occasions for local, state, and national news programs regarding space camps at the Cosmosphere.I was also liaison to the City of Hutchinson Police Department, for which I assisted with training for the Special Response Unit. I worked in cooperation with the local police and fire departments to develop an updated map of the facility for use in emergency response planning. I also initiated the implementation of an active shooter policy for the museum in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies.

I presented public shows in the Justice Planetarium about a multitude of astronomy-related topics. I also helped to develop the new Dr. Goddard’s Lab public show, including writing the script and developing new experiments. I trained tour guides for the Hall of Space museum, as well as assisting with installation of new exhibits. As a part of the education team I also wrote personnel training guides for the Future Astronaut Training Program counselors. I hired, supervised, and provided training for the entire counseling staff of the Future Astronaut Training Program. I wrote new classroom presentations on various space related topics for use during the summer camp season and for presentations outside of camp. I served as a liaison to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas for the Cosmosphere and Space Center, accompanying groups of students and teachers to Houston multiple times. In addition, I served as one of the prominent speakers for the Museum. I presented at an international space conference for teachers at Space Center Houston in Houston, Texas from 2000 to 2006, and in 2008. I was a featured panel speaker for the Atchinson, Kansas Amelia Earhart Festival in 2003. I spoke at numerous schools across the Midwest on space topics. I was a featured guest on the international radio show, “The Space Show,” in 2002 and 2007. I was interviewed on numerous occasions for local, state, and national news programs regarding space camps at the Cosmosphere throughout my occupancy of this position.
