Regional Security Manager Dan Winter retired from the Santa Clara Police Department in June of 2020 as the Assistant Chief of Police and began a career as the Security Operations Manager for Intel Corporation at their International Headquarters in Santa Clara. In January of 2023, Dan was promoted to Regional Security Manager for Intel. Dan is responsible for security at Intel's facilities in California and Arizona. Dan began his Law Enforcement Career in 1988, when he was hired by the Long Beach Police Department as a Reserve Police Officer. In 1991, he was hired by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff. In 1994, he began working for the Pacifica Police Department. At the Pacifica Police Department he rose to the rank of Corporal after being a field training officer and crime prevention officer.He was hired by the Santa Clara Police Department in 1999. After developing the department’s recruiting program, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2002. As a Sergeant, he worked patrol before being assigned to the Professional Standards Unit as the Internal Affairs Sergeant. In 2008, Dan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. In 2013, Dan was promoted to the rank of Captain. On April 27, 2014, Chief Sellers and the City Manager promoted Dan to the rank of Assistant Chief of Police, the position he held until he retired in June of 2020. Dan’s charity work includes being on the International Council of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. He was also the State Director of the Torch Run and helped coordinate law enforcement personnel from all over Northern California as they raised over $1 million dollars for Special Olympics each year. Dan is the President Elect-Elect of the Rotary Club of of Santa Clara and is the past treasurer of the Santa Clara Schools Foundation and past Vice President of the Santa Clara Optimist Club. Dan possesses an Associate in Arts Degree in Administration of Justice, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management (Saint Marys Colege), and a Juris Doctor in Law (Magna Cum Laude) from Santa Clara University. He was admitted to the California Bar as an attorney in 2005. He is a graduate of both the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and the 250th Session of the prestigious Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
