During my internship at UOB Asset Management headquarters from February 27th to August 9th, 2024, I had the opportunity to work as a KYC (Know Your Customer) Analyst. This experience provided me with hands-on exposure to the critical function of maintaining regulatory compliance and mitigating financial risk for the bank.My primary responsibility involved conducting due diligence on new and existing customers to ensure compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) regulations. This process required analyzing customer profiles, identifying and verifying their identities, and assessing potential risks associated with their financial activities. To identify any red flags or suspicious activities, I became adept at using various tools and systems for customer verification, such as databases, watchlists, and screening applications.I collaborated closely with senior analysts and compliance officers to review complex cases and escalate them when necessary. I also assisted in preparing detailed reports that highlighted key findings and recommendations for further action. This role enhanced my understanding of global regulatory requirements and developed my attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to work under tight deadlines.One of the key projects I worked on involved streamlining the KYC process for onboarding high-net-worth individuals, which required coordination across multiple departments. I conducted risk assessments and gathered comprehensive customer information to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the onboarding process. This experience allowed me to refine my communication and teamwork skills, as I frequently interacted with stakeholders across various departments to ensure alignment and clarity in our objectives.Furthermore, I had the chance to participate in training sessions and workshops on the latest KYC trends, regulations, and technologies. This exposure helped me understand the evolving regulatory compliance landscape and prepared me to adapt to future changes in the financial sector.Overall, my internship as a KYC Analyst at UOB Bank was an invaluable experience that deepened my knowledge of financial regulations, risk management, and compliance procedures. It also provided me with a solid foundation for a future career in the financial industry.
