Research and development of rapid diagnostic technology to address conditions including Long Covid and measure biochemical changes indicative of sepsis development.

Research and development on numerous projects including analysis of patient Covid-19 immunity spectra, development of a rapid test for infection to detect if it has viral or bacterial origins, and general implementation of signal amplification for commonly-used sandwich-ELISA tests.Also involved working an event for the British Science festival to explain and demonstrate the technology to a scientific and general audience

Development of synthetic spider silk protein (MaSp) to be expressed in an E.coli chassis, to be combined with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to produce a flexible, conductive material that did not induce an immune response. This composite material was for use as nerve regeneration scaffolding to promote healthy, directional nerve regeneration in patients.This work included multiple international collaborations, science communication and education work, and international experience at a conference held in Paris, France in which I delivered a presentation to an audience of students, academics, and industry leaders in synthetic biology.This project was awarded a gold medal, as well as the prestigious Inclusivity Award for work on disability in STEM. Further nominations were made for best Biomanufacturing project and best Integrated Human Practices- the highest rate of awards and nominations across the UK teams.

Part-time work along my studies was important. I decided to work in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment to challenge myself, especially in a customer facing role in which I had to quickly deliver hand-made consumables on the request of a diverse range of customers. This job was invaluable for solidifying my strong work ethic, teambuilding experience, communication, and being comfortable in an often stressful environment- especially when performing this job role alongside my studies, providing me key time management skills.
