I changed gears in my mid-20s and began my career in healthcare administration. At that time, my goal was to land in a role where I could use the skills I had developed in running my own business to make a difference in people's lives. Just a few years into my career, I am proud to say I have that opportunity every day. My proudest achievement to date is revitalizing Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre, a beautiful, historic hospital that is a critical anchor in Wilkes-Barre's downtown. With over $20m in capital investment, we've transformed a limited outpatient facility back into a thriving community hospital in a few short years, complete with an Emergency Department, 48 inpatient beds, and a variety of strategically placed outpatient services. At the same time, I've had the opportunity to work on a variety of new programs at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, helping to drive significant operational, financial, and quality improvements.I feel fortunate to work at Geisinger, where we are truly thinking differently about healthcare. We have a long way to go as an industry toward achieving true value-based, patient-centered, population health-based healthcare. At the same time, I feel proud to say that I take part in conversations every day about what is best for our patients - how to keep them healthy, prevent them from returning to the hospital unnecessarily, get them appointments when and where they need them, keep them out of the Emergency Department, and so on.I believe in the importance of community. I participate actively in local boards, serve as a spokesperson for local causes whenever I get the chance, and participate in a variety of community events.
