In June 2024 I became Head of CommuniPower at Community Energy South. CommuniPower is a new model for putting communities at the heart of the energy transitions and ensuring that the benefits of the transition are felt by all. We are looking to work with communities, network operators and government across England to rapidly realise a just transition.From 2021 to 2024 I represented Hampshire County Council as the delivery manager for the climate change team. I built a strong network across Hampshire and the Southeast and helped the Council embed climate change thinking within its DNA as well as supporting residents and communities to play their part.In 2021 I completed a Master's degree in Global Energy Transition and Governance. My thesis on the impact of political discourse on the adoption of renewable energy in the United States helped me graduate with an 83% average and the distinction Summa cum Laude.Before this I lived in Japan for 10 years where I lectured at universities, specialising in public speaking and academic writing courses. I also spoke at conferences (in both English and Japanese), conducted research, wrote for publication, and authored a number of textbooks.I also ran my own language school in Osaka. The creation of a company was a formative experience and honed my customer-facing skills and equipped me with skills in financial management, marketing, and customer engagement.Prior to lecturing, I lead the sales and content creation team for ELF Learning. I represented the company at international sales events; delivering pitches and educational presentations. I also produced video and audio content for the company's various digital media outlets and organised multi-day events. My community organising in Osaka and Kyoto began with the founding of Shiga-Kyoto cricket club, which helped spawn the Kansai cricket league. I then helped create Osaka's first English-language community library, spoke on climate change at city events, and organised street and river clean-up activities.Writing has also been a thread throughout my career and I have contributed to four different series of textbooks published in Japan and South Korea. I have also written a 120,000-word travelogue recounting the bicycle journey I made across Japan in 2014.I now use my communication, leadership, and creative thinking skills to pursue my passion for geopolitics and environmentalism and to work towards a clean, sustainable, and just future.
