Research activities:- Continued research focused on studying the roles of cell polarity in shaping cartilages, with an emphasis on genes implicated in rare human skeletal syndromes, leading to the generation of a zebrafish model for Robinow syndrome and publication of findings in the journal Development. - In vivo fluorescent assays: Produced fluorescent reporter constructs and transgenic animals in which specific cell/tissue types or subcellular structures are labeled, including fusion proteins that fluorescently label centrioles and transmembrane receptors.- Collaborated on projects examining the role of retinoic acid (RA) signaling in germ cell and gonad development; Investigating WNT signaling contributions to tendon fibroblast heterogeneity. - Currently exploring CRISPR/Cas9 - mediated knock-in methods in zebrafish.Mentorship, Professional Development, Laboratory Management and Organization:- Streamlined aquatics facility zebrafish line management and laboratory scheduling by implementation of cloud-based databases. - Mentored and trained a junior specialist.- Management Certificate Program – Management Beyond the Classroom, UCI Graduate Division: Learned the fundamentals of project management; team, lab, and grants management; finance.

Research activities:- Acquired NIH F32 funding for my independent research project.- Conducted research focused on studying the roles of cell polarity in shaping cartilages, with an emphasis on genes implicated in rare human skeletal syndromes. - Generated 10 loss-of-function zebrafish mutant lines using CRISPR-Cas9 targeted mutagenesis. Summary: As a PhD student, I conducted research in the laboratory of Dr. Bruce Draper to uncover mechanisms by which ovarian germline stem cells (GSCs) are maintained in zebrafish to better understand niche-stem cell interactions as well as their implications with regards to human fertility. I also discovered roles for germ cells and the oocyte-specific signaling molecule, BMP15, in oocyte production and the maintenance of female sex differentiation.Awards, Honors, and Professional Development:- California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Stem Cell Training Program Fellowship.- Best graduate student talk, Society for Developmental Biology 2013 West Coast Conference.- The Art of Science: Participated in a STEM outreach event to engage the public in science by presenting aspects of my research in the form of artistic project to a diverse group of non-scientists including city of Davis residents and their children.- HHMI Entering Mentoring Seminar Series: Learned about the components of a productive mentor-mentee relationship including how to be a better mentor to students in a laboratory atmosphere and improving communication skills.

Summary: I conducted undergraduate research in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Starr to better understand the mechanisms by which the cell nucleus can be anchored in place or migrate during development.
