The Russian invasion of Ukraine started three weeks later, and the University continued operations despite the tremendous challenges. AUK has been operating virtually throughout the first year of operations with plans to open onsite in September 2023. AUK is the 1st American accredited university in Ukraine and seeks to transform education in Ukraine. AUK has two beautiful campuses in Kyiv and seeks to fill capacity with 7,500 bachelors and masters students over the next several years.

He has appeared on FOX, CNN, Bloomberg, NBC, The Today Show multiple times speaking about West Point, US National Security, the Middle East and leadership. Dan interviewed nearly 100 living graduates and is the authorized biographer for Secretary Lloyd Austin, Senator Jack Reed, General Erik Kurilla, Coach K and many other distinguished graduates.

The Historic Thayer Hotel at West Point is the premier hotel in the Hudson Valley, located on the grounds of West Point, 100 feet over the Hudson River. Dan is the architect of the Room Dedication Program and manages the sponsorships of the rooms. He is also the architect of the granite markers donated by the Thayer Hotel to the West Point Golf Course in 2012. In 2015 he initiated the visit of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation "Wall that Heals" first visit to West Point which was successfully displayed October 21-25, 2016. In 2011 Dan organized the return of the former hostages who had been held in Iran for 444 days for their 30th anniversary visit to the Historic Thayer Hotel where they had arrived at January 25, 1981 upon their return from Iran. This anniversary weekend was fully comp'd by the Thayer Hotel for the former hostages. Co-Founded a solar/battery/diesel hybrid company to reduce fuel and casualties at forward operating bases in Iraq and Afghanistan. The company was the first company to successfully reduce fuel at forward operating bases in Afghanistan.

Co-founded the first private equity fund to operate in Iraq after the liberation of Iraq. Created the legal structure, raised the funds in the middle of the "surge", deployed capital to acquire a tomato paste and juice factory in northern Iraq. Renovated and re-started the factory and over 1,000 farms throughout Iraq in Kurdish, Sunni and Shiite areas. Closed the fund after the global financial crisis prohibited raising a second round of funding.

Voluntarily re-joined the Army and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 2004 to deploy to Iraq September 2004- December 2005. In Tirkit, Iraq he led economic development throughout half of the Sunni Triangle specifically focused on restarting the agrarian economy by creating agricultural co-operatives, micro-finance to support small farming operations, and clearing of canals, restoration of pumping stations, in order to combine the water and energy needed to restart agriculture. He originally served his commitment after graduating from West Point in 1988.Awards include Purple Heart, Airborne Badge, Ranger Tab, Combat Action Badge, Army Commendation Medal (2), and Iraq Campaign Medal.

The company sells the only environmentally friendly IV bag in the world, which was launched in 1989 and does not contain PVC or DEHP, can be burned into CO2 and H2O and is safe for landfills. Rice joined "McGaw" in 1991, the company that originally created the environmentally safe IV bags, which was later acquired by B. Braun in 1997. After the acquisition, led the integration of merging of two similar sized marketing departments.
