Hi there. I’m Dan Watson. I’ve chosen to dedicate my time and energy to building and advocating for high density, urban communities that are socially and economically enriching, connected to transit, and sustainably built. I believe in urbanism and evidence-based decision making. I have extensive experience with development approvals processes, project management, government and community relations, marketing/communications, and creative problem solving. I work at Terra Social Purpose Real Estate as a Development Manager, where I help clients to navigate the development process for new housing, care facilities, childcare, and mixed-use projects. I’m currently serving as President of the Board of the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of British Columbia (ANHBC), an amazing organization that is advancing the development of equitable, diverse, and caring communities. I also serve on the Urbanarium Debate Organizing Committee, helping to foster dialogue around the most important urban issues. Before joining the team at Terra, I was a key player on a Smart Cities team, where I championed the use of data-driven solutions and innovative technologies to empower cities to tackle their most pressing challenges. Before that, I worked as a planning consultant, managing complex approvals processes to help clients turn their project visions into reality. I earned my Master of Planning Degree from the University of Calgary, where I was honoured with the Alberta Professional Planners Institute’s Danny Makale Silver Medallion. I am a member of the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) and the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).
