Investigated the functions and regulation of human A-type lamins using various biochemical and cell biology methods. Discovered that both A- and B-type lamins can bind F-actin but only A-type lamins can crosslink actin filaments, a function that is disrupted by progeria-causing mutations. Identified novel SUMO post-translational modification sites on lamin.
