In 2001, Danske Sprogseminarer became a limited company, with me as managing director. The concept altered. I turned many of the former lecture topics into one and two-day courses. I have gradually built up an extensive network of skilled linguists who teach for Danske Sprogseminarer. We hold around 100 Danish and English courses every year on language and communication, including courses in grammar and spelling, proofreading, memo and report writing, and journalistic narrative technique. In addition to the many open courses, we also provide tailor-made courses for companies. Courses In recent years, we have also provided training courses in Danish proofreading, which were followed by a course in English proofreading and a web journalist course. Typically, these take place over five days, concluding in a written exam. Language network and social mediaWe have our own language network in Copenhagen and Aarhus, with over 100 participants, who meet four times a year for a Danish and an English lecture. We also have a wall on Facebook that we call Sprognetværket (the Language Network), and a blog at www.sprogseminar.dk. The futureI have had a dream job since the mid-90s. It is very satisfying to have your own business and make all the decisions yourself. I co-operate with many highly-qualified linguists who form the core of the company. I might one day consider merging Danske Sprogseminarer with a large company that wished to set up a training department for its employees, combined with open courses. Another possibility might to merge with another training company, which would be particularly interesting if our courses complemented each other. Both options could provide an exciting process as the next stage in my professional life.
