Content strategy is what I do.As executive director and chief content officer at Asia Society, I oversaw editorial and multimedia content across all platforms — including web, social, video, podcasts, and newsletters. As a global leader in the organization, I worked with a wide variety of departments, initiatives, and locations and helped them tell their stories in a way that connected with the organization’s multifaceted audience. My latest project is all about amplifying thought leadership.I was the driving force behind Asia Society Magazine, a digital and print publication designed to grow the organization's global audience by offering timely, engaging, and exclusive content, while showcasing Asia Society expertise. I determined the editorial vision and look and feel of the magazine and managed all facets of the operation, from editorial to design to budget. The magazine features contributions from the world’s leading thinkers on Asian and Asian American affairs and the work of sought-after illustrators and data visualization artists. The readership of the print edition — which has received repeated recognition from the Society of Publication Designers — includes Asia Society’s board of trustees and global council, some of the most influential people informing Asian and Asian American policy, business, and arts.I am an award-winning journalist.I cut my teeth reporting for local newspapers and trade magazines, and went on to write for publications like The New York Times, Foreign Policy, The Financial Times, Slate, and The Economist, among many others. I know how to turn complex ideas into compelling prose.I am a meticulous editor.I’ve been following AP Style since high school and I would copy edit — and often rewrite — every item in Asia Society Magazine. Many of our contributors were subject experts but not necessarily writers. I worked with them to transform their thought leadership into content that kept readers engaged. The Financial Times named my book one of the best of the year.Seven years of research went into The Forbidden Game: Golf and the Chinese Dream, which follows the lives of three men intimately involved in China’s bizarre golf scene — where new golf courses are at once banned and booming — to paint what The New Statesman called “an illuminating portrait of modern China.” The Wall Street Journal praised the book as “strikingly original,” and The Economist said it was “gripping” and “brings China to life in a way that outlandish-but-true statistics cannot.”
