About Dara Lipton
Dara Lipton is the Deputy Director of the Communities and Governance Practice at IREX, providing strategic oversight for a portfolio of 20 programs in 12 countries with a cumulative award value of approximately $180 million. Dara has over 15 years of progressive senior management experience overseeing the management of and providing technical support to implementing complex projects in countries across Central Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa in the areas of youth empowerment, good governance, civil society strengthening, and civic engagement. Overseas, she served as Interim Chief of Party for a $20 million USAID-funded local governance strengthening program in Moldova and spent three years at IREX’s field office in Monrovia, supporting IREX’s civil society and media strengthening programs there. Dara serves as a technical lead on Organizational Capacity Development and Performance Improvement in IREX’s Center for Applied Learning and Impact. Prior to joining IREX, Dara received her MA in international relations at Yale University with a concentration in development and a regional focus in sub-Saharan Africa. She also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Suriname and Uzbekistan, where she focused on capacity building with community organizations, improving public health resources, and overall infrastructural development. Following her volunteer service, Dara worked for Peace Corps Suriname as a technical trainer for health.
