Darin Mercado graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, in 2015. Starting out as a mechanical engineering student, Darin changed his major to Bachelor of Science in University Studies. With this degree, he has concentrations in mathematics, mechanical engineering, and integrative studies. Most recently, Darin has worked in the pharmacy industry as a Key Account Manager. In this role, he was responsible for territory management and on-site visits to clients. Darin first began to develop valuable teamwork and leadership skills through his involvement with the Student Mentor Program at Brazosport College as a Student Mentor. By working one-on-one with other students at Brazosport College, Darin was able to help the school to increase student retention, and instill a feeling of belonging to participants in the program. After transferring to Texas Tech University, he continued to seek out organizations with which to become involved. In 2011, as a member of the Texas Tech University EcoCAR team, Darin traveled to Milford, MI and Washington D.C. to participate in the "EcoCAR the Next Challenge" competition. As Vice President of Activities with the Texas Tech American Society of Mechanical Engineers (TTU ASME), he furthered his experience and skills as a member of the leadership of the organization. Then, he was elected as the President of TTU ASME for the 2013-2014 academic year, and at the same time was the coordinator for the 2014 ASME District E Student Professional Development Conference.
