    In 2011, Operation SAFEE Flight was created as a two day event that takes off on the first Friday and Saturday in May, with a day of educational program for students, educators and the general public and on Saturday, pilots to fly-in to Opa-Locka airport and the community can drive-in to the event. The SAFEE expo’s were conducted in 2012 and 2013, when spelled out its the “South Florida Aviators Fly-in and Educational Expo”.Day long educational events designed to help introduce thousands of local Miami Dade and Broward County public school students of all ages, as well as the general public, to the world of aviation. Future aviators are provided with a glimpse into what aviation could mean for their future and ways to successfully pursue one of the many career paths.The summer of 2013, SAFEE launched its “Summer Aviation Academy” program. Four cities surrounding Opa-Locka Airport, Hialeah, Miami Gardens, Opa-Locka and Miami Lakes, had an Aviation Academy conducted at their Parks. Pilots, Controllers, Technicians, Barrington Irving, Inspectors and local CAP spoke with the youth. They were trained on Flight Simulators and on a separate day, selected youth were taken to Opa-Locka Airport to experience Discovery Flights with four Flight Schools. They also toured the Opa-Locka Air Traffic Control Tower and the USCG base operation.SAFEE is a “STEM” (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) outreach program and has a strong partnership with the FAA, Miami-Dade Schools, local aviation businesses and organizations and Educational institutions at the college level.SAFEE’s goal is to introduce as many kids, young adults, and members of our community to the huge impact and benefits that aviation has in South Florida.
