Senior network engineer/architect supporting US Dept. of Veteran's Affairs VINCI/BISL/CDW systems. Currently providing network systems engineering, support and on-going architecture for VA's research environment and data warehouse operations. Primarily tasked with supporting Cisco Nexus, HPE/H3C Network devices, Mellanox Infiniband & Mellanox 100Gig Ethernet, and Fortinet FortiGate firewalls. This environment requires a highly coordinated balance of security and reliability due to the nature of the data warehouse environment which is continually evolving to meet the needs of the organization.Having to support the network requires in-depth knowledge of Linux, Windows Server, along with Windows Hyper-V Virtualization to support the great number of physical and virtual servers required to run both VINCI research and the data warehouse environment. During my tenure I have delivered the following accomplishments:- Migration from sub-par 1-Gig Cisco network to Cisco Nexus redundant environment- Implemented back-end Mellanox 40Gig Infiniband network to allow for better intranet private server communication supporting Hyper-V stability and improved performance- Migrated from Mellanox 40Gig Infiniband network to Mellanox 100Gig Ethernet which supports RDMA capabilities enabling even faster communications between servers for less latency and further enhanced performance- Migration from a Microsoft software-based firewall to a redundant pair of Fortinet FortiGate firewall appliances which increased reliability and also improved throughput supporting up to 80Gig's of traffic- Supported team efforts: + of moving to clustered SQL servers for improved reliability and supportability + Windows Storage Spaces for bulk backup storage at a lower cost than SAN + Integral in supporting effort to move from fiber-channel based storage to Ethernet/IP-based NAS
