My first flight was in a yellow de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver over Moosehead Lake in Maine. My Dad decided one summer while we were on vacation to bring my brother, mother and I on a scenic flight. This flight changed my life. I wanted to fly! I never stopped looking up after that flight. In 1987, at age 17 at the now closed Johnnycake Airport in Burlington, CT I took my first flight lesson and dreamed of being a professional pilot. That dream took a very circuitous route over the years with many stop and gos. Family, financial obligations and people telling me it wasn't possible put my dream on the back burner.Four years ago, my friend and mentor, Doug Loose, who worked full time as an engineer was called to a job at Republic Airways as a pilot at age 53. I just couldn't believe it was possible but Doug proved it was possible. He encouraged me to do the same and after four years of grinding and many ratings later, I am getting ever closer to my dream I have carried with me since I was 15 years old. It's been a wild journey and I am excited about the future.
