Nothing is more inspiring to me than seeing those who excel at their craft. It doesn’t matter if it is music, art, sports, business, or writing code. Watching people who are great at what they do makes me very happy. You know how you train and coach people over and over again, but you are never sure they are ready? That drives me crazy. I optimize teams using the methods we learned from astronauts, pilots, and athletes: commitment to deliberate practice, live and virtual simulations, and competitive collaboration. When the results really count (think back to those astronauts and pilots I mentioned), there is only one way to train. It starts with immersive simulations, reinforced by deliberate practice, and ramped up by a little competitive collaboration to push people to go beyond what they think they are capable of on their own.
