  • The Cds Group
    Technical Director
The Cds Group Sep 2018 - Jan 2023
    Silsoe
Following an enjoyable 11 1/2 years working at Southern Testing, I moved to The CDS Group (formerly Cemetery Development Services) to further challenge myself, gain new knowledge and experience and to help develop and expand the company. My current role as Technical Director is to oversee, develop and expand the in-house Environmental and Technical services that CDS can offer their clients with regards to the specific EA Guidance around Groundwater protection associated with the development of cemetery extensions, new cemeteries or around ongoing environmental issues in current cemeteries. As part of this work, CDS now offer their clients a wide range of inhouse services, providing initial screening assessments, T1, T2 and T3 groundwater risk assessments, installation of groundwater monitoring wells, groundwater sampling and long term groundwater monitoring. In addition, CDS have expanded our in house skills to deliver material management plans to our clients, helping them manage their waste in line with the current legal requirements. In addition to enhancing the inhouse offering to our core clients, which mainly comprise Local Authorities, the environmental side of CDS has also naturally grown, offering a range of site investigation services and contaminated land assessments across a wider client base. Outside of my technical role, I have helped to rebrand the company from the original Cemetery Development Services branding to the new 'The CDS Group' brand, taking a major role in the design work, website creation/management and overhauling the internal report content and style. In addition to the rebranding I have helped to refine internal data management, bringing in new quoting and CRM systems to the company which has helped to improve resource management within the business. As one of three directors my role also includes Financial Management, Human Resources, Marketing Strategy and Business Development.
  • Southern Testing - St Consult
    Senior Engineer
Southern Testing - St Consult Sep 2013 - Aug 2018

Following 2 years as a graduate engineer and 4 1/2 years as a Project Engineer I was promoted to Senior Engineer in 2013. My role continued to focus on working on a wide range of both geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering projects, producing quotations for clients, supervising a wide range of Site Investigations and producing detailed interpretative reports as well as undertaking validation visits on active construction sites.I remained heavily involved in the production of AGS data from HoleBASE 3.1 and HoleBASE SI, KeyLAB and the design of reporting templates and log templates. During my time working at STL, we entered several of the Keynetix data awards, winning Geotechnical Data Visualisation Award in 2016.In addition to working on the data management, I helped to lead an inhouse working group which worked with an external software developer to develop a bespoke in house resource management portal to manage staff and resource booking on projects as well as developing from scratch a bespoke CRM system to suit the demands on the company. The new software was successfully developed on time and within budget and made significant improvements in the day to operations within the company. As part of my role I managed the internal user access and training of new staff on HoleBASE SI and KeyLAB to ensure the new staff could use the systems efficiently and effectively. In addition, I also took on responsibility of helping to train new technicians and new graduate engineers as well as helping to onboard more senior staff who joined the company. engineers/technicians.
  • Southern Testing
    Geotechnical Engineer
    Southern Testing Jun 2007 - Sep 2013
    East Grinstead
I joined Southern Testing in 2007 as a graduate engineer, where I first experienced training in the inhouse geotechnical laboratory, helping to gain an understanding of the processes involved, the test techniques and the test outputs. Following the work experience in the lab, I undertook a period of time with the inhouse technicians, undertaking site work and getting to know the drilling equipment and the logistical requirements in planning site work and how equipment demands changed based on location and geology. Following this initial training I joined the engineering team at Keeble House where I started my engineer training, which included detailed soil logging, Phase I Desk Study Assessments, Supervision of site work, production of quotes and Phase II Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Reports under supervision. After 2 years I was promoted to a project engineer within Southern Testing, working more independently on a wide range of both geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering projects in the south east of England. As part of my role I was also heavily involved in the production of AGS data initially from gINT before helping with the company transition to HoleBASE 3.1 and the new HoleBASE SI. Internally I was the main designer of reporting templates and log templates as well as helping other engineers manage the production and integration of AGS data.
