I am a recent graduate student with a Master of Science degree in Human Kinetics and Ergonomics from Rhodes University, South Africa (2024). Having been educated across key ergonomics domain such as anatomy, biomechanics, physiology, as well as physical and cognitive ergonomics, my MSc thesis applied this knowledge to research on fatigue management within the South African aviation industry. The process and output of conducting a study in a commercial, safety-critical environment like aviation provided me with a great opportunity to engage with industry stakeholders, collecting and analysing real-world data to help inform future fatigue management policies. This experience has helped to shape my research expertise, and resulted in me being graded with a distinction.I am seeking to use the knowledge and skills that I have developed throughout my time at university to help optimize and/or improve how people interact with their products, tools, and systems. I want to take my understanding of the capabilities and limitations of the human and integrate them into the design of products and systems, to help achieve safer, more effective, and more efficient outcomes for end users.
