About Darryn Whisgary

I am a Research Manager within the Human Sciences Research Council’s (HSRC) Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (CeSTII). I hold a master's degree in herbal sciences from the University of the Western Cape and I’m working towards his PhD in molecular plant physiology. In my years at CeSTII, I have built up a wealth of experience in the field of innovation and research and experimental development (R&D) measurement and analysis. I also co-lead the multi-stakeholder Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) Evi-Pol project. Currently in its second phase, this project brings together 17 African countries to enhance the continent’s science granting council capacity to use evidence for decision-making in science, technology and innovation (STI) policy development. I also coordinate a project exploring the role and potential for the rejuvenation of State-owned Enterprises through R&D activities. In addition, I have keen interests and pursue work in green, circular and bio economies, agriculture, and eco-innovation.
