My research in PEC, Chandigarh dealt with drought estimation using statistics and Geo-spatial analysis. Drought affected areas were identified in the state of Maharashtra, India using Geo-statistical techniques like Kriging, IDW, Spline and Trend . Intensity of droughts was quantified using various drought indices and forecasts were generated to help the administrative authorities in tackling an emergency. Multivariate techniques like factor analysis, PCA and Cluster analysis were used in the end, in order to determine the factors which were responsible for variation in rainfall across the state of Maharashtra. My capstone project involved designing a multistory building using Staad Pro. Siesmic analysis was performed for this design as North India is designated as a high risk earthquake zone. Apart from the software based designs, hand calculations were also done to compare the accuracy of the softwares in designing key components.
