I am a recent graduate with a 2:1 in Mathematics from Swansea University. It has been a place that not only nurtured my enthusiasm for mathematics but also a place where I developed myself as a person and gained valuable skills in communication, teamwork, and independent learning. At Swansea, I discovered a passion for statistics, programming, AI, and machine learning. A group of subjects that go hand in hand and are ever piquing my curiosity. This has been demonstrated by my module grades, in Statistical Data Analysis I managed 86% overall with 90% in the exam, Probability theory - 73%, Applied statistics- 67% (78% exam), and 88% in Machine learning. Since graduating I was fortunate to land a job as a Web developer. This was a completely different path to my peers and would not be the first role you would expect to find a maths graduate. This was an ideal fit for me, I have been able to apply my ML knowledge to real-world problems and stimulate my need to constantly learn and challenge myself. The last part has most certainly occurred; being challenged, and I have enjoyed every moment. I have learnt new skills like SQL, PHP, JS, and frameworks like Vue.js but I have also learnt about computer science and software development as a whole. Outside of my work, and skill development, I am a keen chess player. Currently, I am the captain of a team for a local club in Morriston, with my team competing in the West Wales Chess League(WWCL). In the recent season, I have also taken on the role of division controller for both the 2nd and Minor leagues. I took up the hobby fair recently, and certainly late for most people who enjoy this pastime, whereas most start as a child, I on the other hand didn't take it up until my early 20s. That being said I have been proud of my gains and recently surpassed 1800 FIDE grade.
