GIS and remote sensing combine two of my passions: maps and computers. I’ve always loved geography: I collect old maps, have traveled around 4 continents, and tied for third place in a national geography competition in 2007. I was first introduced to GIS as a first year at Clark University and I’ve been hooked ever since, every now and then doing minor projects solely for my own amusement. My main field of interest is mapping the effects of previous disasters and then predicting future effects based on the historical record. However, overall, my interests are wide, and I will focus in on one topic, such as a place, event, or person, learn as much about it or them as is possible, and then move on to something else, retaining what I’ve learned for later use. I strive for accuracy, and as a result I prefer to never say that I am 100% correct. I try to examine possible outcomes of any decision or project I am involved in, preferring to be safe rather than sorry. Aside from geography, I enjoy trivia, travel, bad puns, speaking French and Italian, and intellectual discussions of history and current events.
