The success of the future rests on the next generation developing the skills and confidence to navigate whatever the 21st century throws at them. My passion is for working with young people to develop these skills and self-belief.I'm an experienced teacher and leader, with experience of teaching a variety of subjects from social sciences through to the arts and sports. As a musician I have seen that music can help people develop their creative problem solving and lateral thinking skills, and grow their self esteem. It also enables people to appreciate and learn from the awe and wonder that can be found in human artistic creativity.I believe that students should understand the importance of being part of a strong community and giving to others, as sometime in the future you might be the person relying on someone else's kindness and charity.As a leader I work hard to grow the confidence and self-efficacy of of the staff and students I work with. We all become the best version of ourselves if we are part of a strong team and community, and this comes from a combination of the setting of strong principles and shared leadership. Sometimes we also need a boot up the backside from someone else to get out of our comfort zone. I am happy to both give and receive such a boot...Education has so much to learn from other sectors and cultures, and my reading and research comes from a wide variety of backgrounds. My particular interest is in self-development, both as an individual and in organisations, and how to develop a self-improving culture in different types of organisations.Most of all, I believe that family is at the top of the priority tree, and the privilege of being a parent should never be taken for granted...
