The release process used was Agile-Scrum. As the TPM, I was also the Scrum-of-Scrum Master, the owner of the Method Of Operations, which defined the scrum process as it pertained to our development cycle, and co-ordination of the 3 Scrum teams. Software Build Prime
As the Build Owner, I was responsible for the team that delivered the Versatile Services Engine Platform builds to multiple product teams. This included working with WindRiver (our HA Linux provider) to upgrade our base linux, and coordinate the project timeline, and integration with interested parties.
R&D Budgeting Prime
Work with R&D and Business leaders to create budgets that met the feature content our products needed to be successful, as well as the financial challenges that existed within Nortel during the decline. We were successful in maintaining enough staff to deliver the required content, while making tough expenditure decisions. In part, these decisions helped attract GENBAND to VSE and the subsequent purchase of CVAS, making VSE (GENiUS) it’s flagship product.

This included local and offshore teams, including Vietnam, India, Romania amongst others.A couple of highlights:Keycodes software licensing• In 2008 I was tasked with providing a generic licensing framework for all of Nortel, and do so without an increase in budget• I provided a plan to drive costs down in one area, such that the staff could migrate to this newer product• Within 6 months we had more than 10 products across all Nortel LOB’s planning to migrate to this framework, with a business plan that made our product cheaper then any external 3rd party offering.Lean Six Sigma Software UpgradesThe SSPFS NT240 platform upgrade software was a common complaint for our customers, and a major cost to Nortel, as it was the platform for 5 different products, and it was overly complex and prone to errors. Our team was asked to significantly improve the upgrades from both a time and quality perspective.• As the R&D leader for this activity, I pulled together teams from India, the US, China, Turkey and Canada, to create a comprehensive project plan and budget. I worked with the project black belt and green belts to understand where the cost savings and quality improvements were required, and R&D teams to implement these findings.• Travelled to meet external customers (Sprint/Bell) for customer demo’s, working with them to ensure our solution met their needs and addressed their concerns.• We delivered on time, with quality, reducing upgrade times by 50%, and customer documentation by 70%• The team won two awards for its efforts: Six Sigma Award for Innovative Solution or Approach, and the CTO Award of Distinction for Recognizing Quality Initiatives.
