Senior University Lecturer In Pre-Hospital Care & Simulation Lead
Working within the Faculty of Health, Social Care & Education, I seek to promote high quality patient care. My responsibilities and achievements include:• The strategic planning and organisation of teaching topics necessary for the paramedic role. As module leader I am responsible for the delivery and presentation of material for students. • Experienced with teaching healthcare students in the education and learning of clinical equipment.• I am responsible as the Simulation Lead within the new Paramedic Simulation Centre.• I communicate effectively with students and members of the teaching team. I am able to provide suitable solutions with objective insight when problem solving. • To promote excellent clinical practice, and encourage students to identify high quality evidence that supports high standards of clinical practice. • To promote and maintain good working relationships with ambulance NHS Trust management. • To apply excellent organizational skills. As student numbers have increased, a pro-active rather than reactive approach has been key in maintaining high standards and service delivery. • Experienced academic mentor to students and new work colleagues. Emergency Care Practitioner
My responsibilities included • Working autonomously as a practitioner to perform advanced pre-hospital assessments, considering differential diagnoses and formulating treatment plans with the informed consent of the patient. • Working with GP's, NHS Hospital trusts and community health services to develop appropriate patient referral services within the locality.• Referring, discharging or treating patients with Patient Group Directive (PGD) medications within ECP clinical guidelines. • Discussing treatment options with patients, and speaking to doctors and other Health Care Professionals regarding referrals. Endeavour to deliver high quality patient care through an understanding of the best evidence based research relating to the topic whilst engaging in discussion with the patient regarding their treatment options. This role further developed my understanding of the patient journey within the primary care environment together with experience gained within both a Minor Injury unit and an Emergency Department.
Clinical Support Advisor
Responsibilities include • Providing advise and support to LAS ambulance crews for the clinical enquiries they may have relating to patient care. The topics of enquiry are broad and include; clinical management issues including end of life care, capacity and consent, issues relating to patient referrals, medication overdose advice and liaison with National Poisons Information Service or the use of Toxbase. • Liaising with members of the medical directorate with issues relating to patient care and within clinical meetings.• Advising crews of treatment options in palliative care encounters, advising ambulance crews of Patient Specific Protocols when crews are called to the related address. Utilising the ADASTRA clinical system to enhance patient care.• Advising crews of Individual Care Protocols when delivering emergency care, and patient specific protocols that often involve individual medication advice. • Advising crews relating to Advanced Life Support and the recognition of life extinct. On occasions of high demand for the Ambulance Service I would call patients back and engage in telephone discussion to assess their clinical need and evaluate if their clinical status had changed and, if more time critical, I would up-grade the patient’s request for an ambulance.

My responsibilities included responding to various categories of calls including 999 emergency calls, urgent calls and hospital transfers. • Keeping up to date with clinical developments and integrating them into my clinical practice. • Gaining an understanding of the patient experience and undertaking my duties to ensure that the patient receives a high standard of care in the pre-hospital care setting. • Having effective communication skills to support the delivery of high standard patient care. • Having a thorough understanding of policies, procedures and clinical guidelines to support patient care.
