For the first several years at EMC I was on a Test Automation Infrastructure team designing and building a common test harness (CTH) platform (using Ruby/Rails) for the greater EMC organization. This tool featured a highly scalable infrastructure where various development and test teams around the company could manage & provision gear and execute their full catalog of automated tests using common interfaces. As the ScrumMaster and Dev lead for the CTH US Agile team, I managed the day to day activities for the project along with owning several key components and features in the CTH product. In the last year or so my team's focus became more oriented towards general DevOps engineering where I worked on various projects like Code Analysis as a Service.

I began at MS working for a small recently acquired startup, AdECN, near Santa Barbara, CA. Our early charter was to build a highly scalable Advertising Exchange platform. I worked as the Delivery Engine test lead, managing a young but strong group of SDETs. In addition to my typical lead/management duties I was involved in the development of our automated test harness (C#), and owned functional testing for several DE features. In OCT 2010 I relocated up to the Bay Area to work out of the MS Mountain View campus on the Contextual Delivery Engine team. On this new team I ended up leading the CX Exchange test team. This team built a new front door and bidding mechanism for competing in ad exchanges. In this new role I also designed and developed a new test framework (based on the core building blocks of the AdECN test framework) for all automated testing. I was able to make some key design and test pattern changes with this framework that gained us a lot of efficiency with our automated testing.

When I joined, Datallegro was an up-and-coming startup in the distributed database arena. After I left they were eventually acquired by Microsoft (only coincidence). I was hired to build and lead a QA team with a focus on test automation. I started with getting a realistic test environment (mini appliance) going and then moved on to design and develop an automated test harness (Java) for all our functional and backend testing. I was able to build a fairly solid test team contributing to release several high quality and critical releases for key customers. In addition to my management duties, I led performance test efforts, was involved with several test & QA initiatives, and remained the architect and main developer for our test framework.

My early contributions were as part of the Tracking & Core team. Before I joined most of the transaction tracking backend (i.e. mission critical, money related data) testing was very ad-hoc and manual leading to numerous issues in Production. I worked to implement an automated test framework (Java) to provide automated test coverage for this area and the new backend architecture (Core). Working closely with development and implementing solid automated test coverage, I was able to significantly raise the quality bar. As a team we set a good precedent for how other product engineering groups could successfully develop and test within the company.In the last year or so with CJ I took on more of a lead/manager role on the team taking on hiring, training, release planning, reviews, etc. in addition to my typical test lead responsibilities.
