As a Health/Physical Education teacher at Liberty High School, I teach students in grades 9-12 about a variety of health topics and lifetime activities.In Physical Education, we strive to provide students with the motor skills required to engage in lifelong fitness activities and we encourage lifetime participation. For students interesting in honing their athletic skills, we provide sport-specific training to help our students reach their goals.In Health, we discuss the important topics that affect teen health, including effective communication skills, drug and alcohol use and abuse, STD prevention, proper nutrition, physical activity recommendations, and pregnancy - just to name a few.Liberty High School also introduced a pilot-program introducing Restorative Practices to the 9th grade Health curriculum. Our aim is to help students take ownership of their behaviors and to improve communication, not only from student-to-student, but also between student-to-teacher and beyond.Recently, our department has shifted its course focus to help students discover future career options through the BASD Career Pathways curriculum program. Over the past two years, we have created the following courses:- Introduction to Kinesiology- Introduction to Epidemiology- Sports Nutrition- Nutrition Across The Lifespan- Motor Learning

As the Director of Curriculum for W.I.T.S., I oversee the educational programming that we provide to our students. Whether it is updating the existing curriculum or developing new content and coursework to keep our students informed and engaged, I have the pleasure of working with an outstanding team of course mentors and curriculum developers.The goal of our educational programming is to provide the most relevant and up-to-date information to our students, enabling them to be the best fitness professionals they can be. Our curriculum model follows that of Wiggins and McTighe's "Understanding By Design" or, as it's commonly referred to, backwards design.

As a Curriculum Developer for World Instructor Training Schools, I assist in the creation of live, hybrid, and on-line course content using Canvas LMS for our students from start to finish. As an instructor for World Instructor Training Schools, I lead both the classroom lecture portion and the hands-on practical skills portion of our Personal Fitness Trainer certification course.The lecture portion of our classes revolves around grasping the various concepts needed to become an effective personal trainer, including human anatomy, exercise physiology, basic biomechanics, behavior modification, and exercise prescription for cardiovascular activity, muscular strength and endurance activity, and flexibility.The practical skills portion of our classes provides students with an opportunity to practice the skills required to become an effective personal trainer. Students practice administering health background checks using a Health Status Questionnaire (HSQ), performing various fitness assessments, and learning how to safely guide a client through a complete training session.

The mission of Global Personalized Academics is to provide robust, engaging solutions for expanding and enhancing learning opportunities for all students. This is done through the use of online and blended learning for students K-12 and beyond.During my time with Blended Schools Network (now known as Global Personalized Academics), I was an instructor and mentor for various K-12 academic courses. The primary role of the mentor is to provide academic support for students enrolled in GPA courses while the primary role of the instructor is to deliver academic content to students enrolled in GPA courses.
