I currently lead a small team of developers for DHS/FEMA/DAIP that refactored a legacy J2EE application so that it runs as a cloud capable application on AWS in Docker and EKS, but also remains backwards compatible with Weblogic 12c. This hybrid implementation allowed FEMA to eliminate a legacy data center and provide better performance in the cloud, which reduced operating costs significantly and provided a more reliable system.

Lead developer for Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) application, which is a public facing J2EE application on www.disasterassitance.gov, which allows disaster survivors to register for FEMA assistance and monitor the status of their application. Within this project, I created a proof-of-concept project to convince FEMA management that the legacy application could provide additional years of service without a total rewrite by replacing the HTML-3 front end with a modern HTML-5 responsive user interface implemented with Bootstrap. This provided the required support for phones and modern browsers, without needing a ground up rewrite, which saved the taxpayer a significant amount of money and extended the life of the legacy application.
