Responsible for the activities of the Air Safety Management Team (ASMT) of a large and geographically diverse flying organisation. Primarily responsible to the Delivery Duty Holder (DDH) for compliance with national level aviation regulations and the development of internal Air Safety Policy and Objectives in accordance with higher-level direction and current good practices. Oversee day-to-day AS Risk Management, AS Assurance and AS Promotion activities and work closely with adjacent ASMSs in the development of medium- to long-term AS strategy. Exponent of Human Factors and Error Management training in support of enduring AS objectives.

Responsible to the Air Safety Manager for the control and management of Training Group Orders and the oversight and management of the Air Safety Regulatory Articles and directives applicable to subordinate units. The provision of advice to personnel (both within the HQ and at unit level) on the implementation of MAA and RAF Air Safety policy. Liaison with other Air Safety organisations, adoption of collective good practice and the implementation of MAA and RAF Air Safety Policy within the Group. The conduct of Air Safety Assurance Visits to subordinate flying units, oversight of the follow up of recommendations and the preferment of advice and corrective actions when required. The collation and scrutiny of Risk Registers and the use of air safety information management systems to conduct effective trend analysis of occurrences affecting subordinate platforms. Representation of the Group at steering and working group meetings; the generation and dissemination of Aviation Safety publicity material and the promotion of a positive air safety culture.

Responsible for ensuring that the lawful instructions of the Council, with regard to its functions as a Local Authority, are carried out. Provide advice and assist in the formation of overall policies to be followed in respect of the Authority’s activities. Responsible for producing the information required for effective decision-making and implementation. Accountable for the efficient management of resources and reporting. Responsible Finance Officer and accountable for the financial records of the Council and for the accurate administration of finances. Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the safety of employees and members of the public.

Responsible to the Air-Officer Commanding (AOC) for aircrew standardisation programme for E-3D Sentry (and later Nimrod R1) aircrew. Led a multi-disciplinary team of 16 specialised aircrew officers and senior NCOs and responsible for line management of civil service administration staff. Functional deputy for OC Operations Wing which required oversight of all aspects of the day-to-day running of a busy fixed wing operational airfield: Flight Operations, Flight Safety, Air Traffic Control, Fire Services, Bird Control and contingency planning. Responsible for functional safety management, compliance with flying regulations and orders and the effective execution of the standardization programme for 250 aircrew and staff. Completed highly successful out-of-area tour as Air Advisor responsible for tactical control of air assets, airspace coordination and flight safety.
