A lot of in depth technical training as well as the systems and software weren't as reliable and didn't have fancy gui diagnostics. The first ICL mainframe I started on had a teleprinter console interface and 2K (no I didn't get my K's and M's mixed up) of main memory and you could still have half a dozen jobs running. On occasion they managed into double figures if the right combination of jobs came in.
