Self EmployedSimply Scripting Mar 2012 - PresentPoole, DorsetAn extension of my time at ASCII was to produce web based solutions using ASP or PHP interacting with databases where required. This role allows me to go through the full life cycle of a project. From the initial contact with the customer (face to face, phone or email), design, development, testing and hand over plus after sales product support and amendments at a later stage.I find speaking to the customer using non-technical terms produces the information required to give them what they need and they understand what they will be getting.Much of my work is repeat business, I take the time to understand the clients business and their needs, cover all aspects of their requirements and produce the end product in a timely manner.Projects completed include an e-petitions system including migration of data from previous system for a county council, a directory system (wp plug-in) for a department at Cornell University (USA), restaurant reservation system (wp plug-in) including payment gateway for a chain in New York and some smaller jobs for Brooklyn Museum (New York).

Sales/Support DirectorAscii Software Ltd Jan 1999 - Mar 2012Poole, DorsetSoftware development company producing text base chat systems using Java and Win32 applications.Initially my role was to deal with support of the off the shelf packages that we produced, these being text based chat system utilising Java and Win32 client/server applications. This extended to the production of bespoke systems which involved talking the client through their requirements, advising on Pro's and Con's of their concept as well as advising of additional features. Specification of Requirements produced and presented to the client, dealing with any outstanding questions and upon finalising the details an estimate of price was presented to the client and if required negotiation on requirements or price until agreement was reached.Throughout the development communication was key, informing the client on progress and verifying any questions that development had during the coding process.Following completion and delivery of the solution I would support the product meaning the client was still dealing with a friendly face or voice who had been through the development of their software and understood its limitations. In early 2001 I learnt to code in ASP but having previously been involved in software development I had an understanding and ability to read code so this was a natural step to take. Produced various systems including shopping carts, directories, intranet/extranet sales systems incorporating customer information, product information, stock re-ordering, job sheets, invoice production, payment transactions, data exporting for use with Excel. Much this work was for county councils such as Suffolk and Essex.A progression was to learn PHP coding and interaction with various types of databases such as mySQL, MS SQL and files. I look to build systems that take in future considerations. Customers like this concept as it gives them confidence in the solution and the price they are paying.

MdWealdgrey Ltd May 1985 - Jun 1997Stoke-On-Trent, United KingdomA progression from my role in South Yorkshire, initially we had one site in Stoke-on-Trent, over the years this went to 8 employing 42 members of staff, operating under various oil companies brands, in all instances the site image and sales revenue were improved.Using the same procedures that I had developed when working for AMOCO together with increasing knowledge of employment law and accounts procedures. Became familiar with Double Entry bookkeeping, Sage Accounting and Payroll software, reporting periodically and completing Year Ends up to Trial balance including bank reconciliation. In the late 80's it became apparent that technology was going to play a big part in the future of the retail industry. From this I teamed up with a software programmer and we developed a BOM system linked to an EPOS. This allowed us to gather real time information, daily sales and stock control. In addition we developed a bookkeeping solution, converting the paper system normally used into a computerised version which was then transmitted to an office via modem. This was a first. However we were unable to obtain outside financial support at that time so the solution was used for our own sites.Unfortunately in the mid 90's petrol stations were shutting at 1,000 per year and successful sites were being pulled back in-house, this prompted our decision to come out of the petrol industry and the company was closed.
