Dr. Schall obtained his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the North Carolina State University in 2004. His dissertation work was on the effect of applied strains on the measurement of elastic modulus using nanoindentation. After graduation he completed a post-doctorate appointment at the United States Naval Academy where he research friction and wear in diamond-like carbon materials. He is currently teaching at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University starting in August 2019. He was a professor in mechanical engineering at Oakland University from 2009-2019. Interests include friction, lubrication, and wear.
