My goals are to have a part in creating a caring society. I want to work with movements that have real traction. Restorative justice is exciting to me in that it offers healing for victims and offenders on a personal level, hope for many people at a local community level, and an alternative to the prison system on a national structural level.My goal as a freelance editor working with writers, from novices to established intellectuals, is always to find out what the individual wants to say, and to help them find their own unique voice, in the style appropriate to their task (academic, business, fiction, journalistic, or other). I have four decades’ diverse experience of writing and editing academic papers; articles and columns for print and web magazines; novels and short stories; business proposals and newsletters; and nonfiction books. I was Managing Editor at Tikkun magazine for four years. It lost some critical funding and half the staff were laid off in April 2011, including me. I am glad to say the magazine is still in print, and I volunteered to guest edit the Winter 2012 issue on Restorative Justice, which is a topic that is consuming my interest these days. In 2011 I did trainings with the Victim Offender Education Group at San Quentin, and now co-facilitate a weekly group at the prison, a monthly group at Chowchilla women's prison (CCWF) and two weekly groups with Miki Elster at Contra Costa's W. County Detention Facility.I have also been teaching the occasional semester at the California Institute of Integral Studies in their Bachelors completion program: a fantastic and rewarding experience.Specialties: Editing -- magazines, magazine articles, books, blogs, academic and non-academic.Writing - on assignment, and including collaborative or ghost writing to help you to express yourself clearly.
